Laggala Divisional Secretariat is situated in Matale district, Central Province. Its northern border consists of Naula and Elahera Divisional Secretariats and its eastern border is Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat. Southern border of Laggala Divisional Secretariat is Kandy district while its western border consists of Ambanganga-koralaya & Raththota Divisional Secretariat. Laggala Divisional Secretariat has great historical and aesthetic value. Laggala also margins the magnificent Knuckles mountain range has several gramaniladhari districts.
Laggala, which hydrates from northeastern monsoon wind has two main climate zones. West zone is bit wet and northern, southern & eastern zones has a dry weather.
Laggala Divisional secretariat's most important environmental landmark is knuckles forest reserve. Since knuckles mountain frequently gets foggy it's also called the dumbara mountain. This reserve shows all forest features that could be seen in different kinds of Sri lankan forests.
Since 16 October 1981 this has been named as a nature reserve this reserve is also named as a world heritage.
the area surrounding riverston mountain peak is also famous among tourists. there are two main waterways in divisional secretariat and the main one is kalu Ganga. since year 2016 Kalu Ganga development project has been started by blocking this river.
Residents in Laggala consider it as ravana area in their hearts. one stage of king ravana and rama's war is said to be took place in Ranamure (a village in the division) and a palace of ravana has been built near lakegala, which is now called as Maligathenna.
Long division secretariat has three sectors 37 divisions is 375 square kilo metres and population is 16333. people in this area of very traditional and they place great significance in old beliefs and ancient rituals.
11 grama niladhari divisions which had a proud history were drowned due to Moragahakanda development project. residents in those areas were resettled in Laggala akarahediya new state under mahaweli movement. All government organisations were reinstalled in laggala new town. More over around 2000 families in Naula district secretariat who lost their lands due to Moragahakanda Project also were resettled in this town.
